Give yourself at least eight weeks of regular hill walking if you are starting from an ordinary fitness level. Twelve weeks is more comfortable. If you already hike on weekends, keep that habit and add longer back-to-back days. The aim is tired legs that recover, not a gym personal best.
How Kilita plans it
Train with the boots you will wear and a light pack. Walking one hard day a week is less useful than three moderate days. Altitude cannot be trained away at sea level, so do not trade the extra day on the mountain for an extra week in the gym. Tell Kilita how you have been training when you book, so we can match the route to a real person.
What to do next
- Eight to twelve weeks for most people.
- Use the real boots.
- Walk on consecutive days.
- Keep the longer route even if training goes well.
