Safari FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About Tanzania Safaris
These are the questions Kilita Safaris travellers ask most often when planning a Tanzania safari, Kilimanjaro climb or beach add-on. For anything specific to your trip, contact our team directly — we respond within 24 hours.
How much does a Tanzania safari cost?
Kilita Safaris trips range from around $250 per person per day for budget camping safaris up to $900+ per person per day for luxury lodge safaris and combo trips, depending on group size, accommodation level and trip length. Contact us for an exact quote for your dates.
What is included in a safari quote?
A Kilita Safaris quote itemises park entry fees, accommodation (camping, mid-range lodge or luxury), a 4x4 safari vehicle with driver-guide, meals as specified, and airport/park transfers. International flights and personal travel insurance are not included.
When is the best time to visit Tanzania?
The June-October dry season gives the most reliable wildlife viewing, including Mara River crossings during the Great Migration from around August to September. The November-May green season has lower rates, fewer crowds and good birdwatching, with calving season on the southern Serengeti plains from January to March.
How many days do I need for a Tanzania safari?
5-7 days covers the Northern Circuit highlights (Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Lake Manyara) at a comfortable pace. 8-10+ days allows time to add Zanzibar, the southern parks (Nyerere, Ruaha) or a Kilimanjaro climb.
Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?
Most nationalities need a visa, obtainable online in advance via the official Tanzania e-Visa portal (visa.immigration.go.tz) or on arrival at major airports including Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your travel date.
Should I book a private or group safari?
A private safari gives you a dedicated vehicle and guide, flexible pacing, and suits families or photographers. Joining a scheduled group tour shares the vehicle and cost with other travellers, which lowers the price per person for solo travellers or couples on a budget.
Is Tanzania safe for wildlife viewing?
Yes, when following standard safari safety rules: stay inside the vehicle unless your guide says otherwise, keep at least six metres from big cats and other wildlife, and never feed or call animals. Kilita Safaris guides brief every group on these rules at the start of the trip.
What vaccinations or health precautions do I need?
Requirements vary by nationality and travel history; see our guide to malaria prevention and required vaccines, and check current guidance from your national health authority or the CDC before travelling. Anti-malarial medication is commonly recommended for Tanzania's safari regions.
What should I pack for a Tanzania safari?
Neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for early morning game drives, sun protection, binoculars and a camera are the essentials. See our full safari packing list for a complete checklist by season.
Can I combine a safari with a Kilimanjaro climb or a beach holiday?
Yes — many Kilita Safaris travellers combine a Northern Circuit safari with a Kilimanjaro climb (Machame, Lemosho, Marangu or Rongai routes) and/or a beach extension in Zanzibar or Pangani. Tell us your dates and we will build a combined itinerary.
