Is the Seven Day Machame Route Worth Choosing Over Six Days?
2 November 2026

For a first climb, yes. The seventh day is an extra night for acclimatisation, not a sightseeing day. Kilita's 6-day Machame card is $1,550 joining or $1,850 private. The 7-day Machame card is $1,700 joining or $2,000 private. The difference is one more night on the mountain and a calmer height gain.

How Kilita plans it

If you have climbed above 4,000 metres before and you recover well, six days can be enough. Most of our guests have not. We would rather explain the extra cost than watch a strong walker turn around on a short schedule. The trail and the summit night are the same kind of effort. The extra day changes the approach.

What to do next

  • First climb: take seven days.
  • The extra cost is one night and a slower gain.
  • Six days is a reasonable choice for a returning climber.
  • Do not cut the day to save the hotel night in Moshi.
