Kilimanjaro preparation

The short answer

How Many Recovery Days Should I Allow Between Kilimanjaro and Safari?
2 November 2026

Allow at least one full day in Moshi after you come down, and two days if you can. The descent day is not a rest day. People are tired, dusty, and sometimes nursing a blister or a headache. A safari pickup on the same afternoon is a hard start. Zanzibar can wait those two days as well.

How Kilita plans it

Kilita can book the Moshi night and the safari so they do not collide. A 10-day climb-and-safari card exists, at $2,800 joining or $3,400 private, and it still needs the rest night designed in. Do not schedule a dawn crater drive for the morning after Uhuru Peak. Your guide will be tired too.

What to do next

  • One rest day minimum, two if the schedule allows.
  • The descent day does not count as rest.
  • Put Zanzibar after the rest, not before the climb.
  • Build the gap into the quote before you buy flights.
