Pack for three climates. The forest is warm and wet. The moorland is sun and wind. The summit is freezing. You need a waterproof jacket and trousers, a warm fleece, an insulated jacket, gloves, a warm hat, a sun hat, and trousers you can walk in. Cotton against the skin is a poor choice once it is wet.
How Kilita plans it
Kilita's packing page is the checklist to print. Rent the heavy insulated jacket in Moshi if you do not own one, and try the zip before you leave town. You will wear less in the first days and almost all of it on summit night. Put the warm clothes where you can reach them in the dark, not at the bottom of a rented bag.
What to do next
- Shell, insulation, and sun protection.
- Avoid a cotton base layer.
- Keep summit clothes in a separate dry bag.
- Try rented layers on in Moshi.
