You need to be able to walk uphill for several hours a day, on consecutive days, with a day pack. You do not need to be a runner or a climber. The porters carry the camping kit. You carry water, a layer, and your camera. People who walk regularly do better than people who plan to get fit on the mountain.
How Kilita plans it
Altitude, not fitness alone, stops many healthy trekkers. A fit person can still have to turn around. Train on hills or stairs, with a pack, for several weeks. Tell Kilita about any heart, lung, or joint problem before you book, and talk to your own doctor. We are a trek operator, not a medical service. A longer route is the right partner to a basic fitness plan.
What to do next
- Walk uphill on consecutive days before you fly.
- Carry a light pack on training walks.
- Ask your doctor if you have a medical condition.
- Pick a route of at least seven days for a first attempt.
