Overview

Reserve your place early on this 2027 group departure to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route, the only route that approaches the mountain from the quieter northern side, near the Kenyan border. Rongai sees far less foot traffic than the southern routes, offering a peaceful, remote trekking experience through drier terrain.

The trail climbs steadily through forest and moorland before crossing the "saddle" between the jagged peak of Mawenzi and Kibo, then joins the summit approach for the final push to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. The descent comes down the busier Marangu side, giving climbers a look at two very different faces of the mountain.

This fixed early-reservation departure lets travelers from the UK and elsewhere lock in a group climb well ahead of the 2026 & 2027 seasons, joining a shared team of climbers with experienced mountain guides and a dedicated support crew. With professional guiding, hearty trail meals, and full mountain-park logistics arranged for you, this all-inclusive joining-group climb offers a safe, comfortable, and memorable Kilimanjaro adventure.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,650m)

The group is driven from Moshi around to the northern side of the mountain, close to the Kenyan border, where registration takes place at the quiet Rongai Gate. The trail climbs gently through pine forest and cultivated land, with far fewer other trekkers on this side of Kilimanjaro. Camp is pitched at the forest's edge with open moorland views ahead.

  • 1,950m to 2,650m | 8 km | 3-4 hours | Montane forest
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Simba Camp
  • Meals: Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 2 Simba Camp (2,650m) to Second Cave Camp (3,450m)

A steady climb takes the group up through heather and moorland, with expanding views back over the Kenyan plains. The vegetation shrinks the higher the group climbs, and the crisp, dry air on this side of the mountain is noticeably different from the wetter southern routes.

  • 2,650m to 3,450m | 7 km | 4-5 hours | Moorland
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Second Cave Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 3 Second Cave Camp (3,450m) to Kikelewa Camp (3,679m)

The trail continues across open moorland with the jagged outline of Mawenzi Peak drawing closer. It's a shorter, rockier walking day, and the group makes camp on the grassy slopes below Mawenzi, one of the more scenic camps on the route.

  • 3,450m to 3,679m | 6 km | 3-4 hours | Moorland
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Kikelewa Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 4 Kikelewa Camp (3,679m) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)

A short but steep climb brings the group up into the alpine desert zone directly beneath Mawenzi's jagged spires. This extra day at Mawenzi Tarn helps the body acclimatize before crossing to Kibo, and most groups use the afternoon for a short acclimatization walk and rest.

  • 3,679m to 4,330m | 5 km | 3-4 hours | Alpine desert
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Mawenzi Tarn Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 5 Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m) to Kibo Camp (4,700m)

The route crosses "the Saddle," a wide, barren plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo, before reaching Kibo Camp, the final camp before the summit attempt. The rest of the day is for resting, an early dinner, and preparing gear for the midnight start.

  • 4,330m to 4,700m | 8 km | 5-6 hours | Alpine desert
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Kibo Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 6 Summit Day: Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) then Horombo Camp (3,720m)

The group sets off around midnight, climbing steep scree toward Gilman's Point and then Stella Point on the crater rim before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, around sunrise. After time at the summit, the descent switches to the Marangu side of the mountain, dropping down to Horombo Camp for the night.

  • 4,700m to 5,895m ascent, then down to 3,720m | 6 km up / 16 km down | 10-14 hours total | Summit zone and moorland
  • Overnight: Mountain huts, Horombo Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 7 Horombo Camp to Marangu Gate and transfer to Moshi

A long, steady descent through moorland and rainforest brings the group down to the Marangu Gate, where park formalities are completed and it's customary to tip the guides, cooks, and porters. From there, a short drive returns you to your hotel in Moshi.

  • 3,720m to 1,860m | 20 km | 5-7 hours | Moorland and montane forest
  • Meals: Breakfast and Lunch Included.
