Overview

Secure your place on a guaranteed group departure to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route, widely regarded as one of the most scenic and successful routes on the mountain. Approaching from the west, Lemosho sees fewer climbers on its lower slopes and offers a gentle, well-paced ascent that supports strong acclimatization.

The route crosses the Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit through the Barranco Valley, giving trekkers a long, varied walk through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert on the way to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa.

This fixed 2026 & 2027 group departure schedule lets solo travelers and small parties join a shared team with experienced mountain guides, an assigned support crew, and a set start date, so you can plan and budget your trip with confidence well in advance. With professional guiding, hearty trail meals, and full mountain-park logistics arranged for you, this all-inclusive joining-group climb offers a safe, comfortable, and memorable Kilimanjaro adventure.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Moshi to Lemosho Gate (2,100m) then Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m)

After an early breakfast, the group drives roughly two hours to the western side of the mountain, entering the park at Lemosho Gate once registration is complete. The trail leads through tall montane forest, sometimes with sightings of colobus monkeys, to Mti Mkubwa ("Big Tree") Camp, the group's first night under canvas.

  • 2,100m to 2,750m | 6 km | 3-4 hours | Montane forest
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Mti Mkubwa Camp
  • Meals: Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 2 Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)

The forest opens onto the wide, rolling Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro's most distinctive landscapes. It's a longer walking day with a real altitude gain, so guides keep a slow, steady pace and remind the group to drink plenty of water. Camp sits in the open moorland with sweeping views back toward the plains.

  • 2,750m to 3,840m | 8 km | 5-6 hours | Moorland
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Shira 2 Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 3 Shira 2 Camp (3,840m) via Lava Tower (4,630m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

A key acclimatization day: the group climbs up to the Lava Tower before dropping back down into the lush Barranco Valley to sleep. Gaining altitude during the day and losing it before bed helps the body adjust. Giant lobelias and senecios line the valley floor around camp, with the Barranco Wall rising just ahead.

  • 3,840m up to 4,630m, down to 3,960m | 12 km | 6-7 hours | Alpine desert
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Barranco Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 4 Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

The day starts with the Barranco Wall, a steep scramble up loose rock that needs hands for balance but no technical climbing. Once past it, the trail undulates across ridges with the summit dome constantly in view before a short drop into Karanga Camp, sometimes called the "Valley of Hunger."

  • 3,960m to 4,035m | 5 km | 4-5 hours | Alpine desert
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Karanga Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 5 Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

A shorter day across exposed, rocky alpine desert brings the group to Barafu Camp, base camp for the summit attempt. The rest of the afternoon is for resting, an early dinner, and a final gear check, since the crew will wake climbers around midnight to begin the ascent.

  • 4,035m to 4,640m | 4 km | 3-4 hours | Alpine desert
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Barafu Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 6 Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) then Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Climbing begins well before dawn by headlamp, over steep scree toward Stella Point and on to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, timed for sunrise. This is the longest and toughest day of the trek. After celebrating at the summit, the group descends to Barafu for a break, then continues down to Mweka Camp for the night, back in thicker, warmer air.

  • 4,640m to 5,895m ascent, then down to 3,100m | 7 km up / 23 km down | 11-15 hours total | Summit zone and moorland
  • Overnight: Mountain tents, Mweka Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 7 Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,980m) and transfer to Moshi

The final morning is an easy descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where the crew handles park sign-out and summit certificates are issued before the drive back to your hotel in Moshi. Tipping the guides, cooks, and porters here is customary and appreciated.

  • 3,100m to 1,980m | 10 km | 3-4 hours | Montane forest
  • Meals: Breakfast and Lunch Included.
