Tanzania welcomes thousands of international travelers daily. Most foreign citizens require a tourist visa to enter. Understanding passport requirements and applying for an e-Visa online makes your arrival efficient.

A tourist visa is required for nationals of the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, European Union, and other countries. Review the current application options.

1. Passport Validity (Crucial Entry Rule)

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry into Tanzania. It must contain at least two blank pages for stamps.

2. The Online e-Visa (Recommended)

Apply for a tourist visa through the official government portal at least 2-3 weeks before your trip. This avoids long queues at the airport.

  • Official URL: Only apply through the official website: Tanzania Immigration Portal. Avoid third-party websites that charge extra processing fees.
  • Fees: A standard single-entry tourist visa costs $50 USD. For US citizens, a mandatory multiple-entry visa costs $100 USD.

3. Visa on Arrival

If you do not apply online, you can purchase your visa on arrival at major entry ports like Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), and Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ). Bring exact cash in crisp, clean US Dollar bills printed after 2013.

4. Yellow Fever Entry Rule

A Yellow Fever vaccine card is checked if you are arriving from or transiting through risk countries (such as Kenya, Uganda, or Ethiopia).
