For the ultimate thrill, combine Africa's highest summit hike with a world-class Big Five wildlife safari. This 12-day combination itinerary matches the Lemosho climb with game drives in Serengeti and Ngorongoro.
A Kilimanjaro and safari combo is a challenging yet deeply rewarding vacation. We always recommend climbing Mount Kilimanjaro first, so you can relax your tired muscles in a comfortable safari lodge afterward.
The Ultimate 12-Day Itinerary Outline
- Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Gear check and briefing in Moshi.
- Day 2-8: Climb Mount Kilimanjaro via the scenic 7-day Machame Route or 8-day Lemosho Route. Reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895m!
- Day 9: Rest and recover in Moshi, enjoy a massage or a celebratory local dinner.
- Day 10: Drive to Lake Manyara or Tarangire National Park for a relaxing wildlife safari.
- Day 11: Explore the majestic floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, spotting lions, rhinos, and elephants.
- Day 12: Half-day cultural village tour, return to Arusha/Kilimanjaro for departure flight.
Planning and Packing Tips
- Acclimatization: Climbing first is critical. Safaris have low physical demand, allowing active muscle recovery.
- Packing Smart: Pack hiking gear and safari clothing in separate bags. You can safely store your safari bags at our office or hotel in Moshi during the climb.
