Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your adventure begins with registration at Londorossi Gate, followed by a drive to the trailhead. The trek starts through dense rainforest, where you may spot colobus monkeys and other wildlife. After a steady ascent, you’ll reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you’ll camp for the night.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
The trail ascends into the heather and moorland zone, passing through open meadows and rocky outcrops. The day’s hike offers fantastic views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance. You’ll reach Shira 1 Camp for your overnight stay, set against the stunning backdrop of Kibo Peak.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
The day is spent trekking across the vast Shira Plateau, offering incredible panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and volcanic rocks. As you continue to Shira 2 Camp, you’ll have time to acclimatize and enjoy the peaceful environment of the plateau.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Acclimatization is the focus of the day as you ascend to Lava Tower, a towering volcanic formation at an altitude of 4,600 meters. After soaking in the views, you’ll descend to Barranco Camp, where you’ll rest and enjoy views of the Barranco Wall and the surrounding area.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Today involves a challenging ascent of the Barranco Wall, followed by a relatively easy walk through alpine desert to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day, allowing for more acclimatization while enjoying stunning views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding landscapes.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The trail today leads to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. As you climb, the terrain becomes more arid and rocky. Upon reaching Barafu, you’ll have time to prepare for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Camp
The summit push begins in the early hours, with a steep climb through the cold, dark night. The trail takes you to Stella Point, where you can pause for a rest before continuing to Uhuru Peak. Once at the summit, you’ll experience a sense of accomplishment as you witness the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. After celebrating at the top, descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest before continuing to Mweka Camp, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
On the final day of your climb, you’ll descend through the lush rainforest, passing through moss-covered trees and tropical vegetation. Arriving at Mweka Gate, you’ll complete your climb and receive your climbing certificate. A vehicle will transport you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
