Kilimanjaro 5 Days Marangu Route Group

5 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing – Marangu Route

The 5-day Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the most popular and well-established route for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a relatively straightforward ascent with the convenience of hut accommodations, unlike the camping routes. While the route is shorter than others, it still provides a challenging climb with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. The Marangu Route is often chosen for its ease of access and is a great option for climbers looking for a quicker way to reach Uhuru Peak.

TOUR ITINERARY:

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Your adventure begins with registration at Marangu Gate, where you’ll meet your guides and porters. The first day’s trek takes you through lush rainforests, where you’ll enjoy the cool climate and the opportunity to spot wildlife, such as monkeys and birds. The day’s destination is Mandara Hut, situated at 2,700 meters, where you’ll spend your first night on the mountain.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

The second day of the trek takes you to Horombo Hut at 3,700 meters. The hike passes through alpine meadows with spectacular views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak. As you ascend, the terrain becomes drier and more exposed, allowing for fantastic vistas. You’ll spend the night at Horombo Hut, where you’ll acclimatize and prepare for the next stage of your climb.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

The day’s trek takes you further up the mountain to Kibo Hut, at 4,700 meters. The terrain becomes increasingly rugged and arid as you enter the alpine desert zone. As you ascend, the air becomes thinner, and you’ll need to take breaks to acclimatize. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you’ll rest and prepare for your midnight summit push.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Hut

Your summit attempt begins around midnight, as you start your hike towards Uhuru Peak. The first part of the climb is challenging, with steep inclines through the cold, dark night. The trail takes you to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim, where you can take a short break before continuing to Uhuru Peak. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views and a sense of triumph. After spending time at the peak, you’ll descend to Horombo Hut to rest.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

The final descent takes you back to Marangu Gate, passing through lush forests and meadows. Once at the gate, you’ll receive your certificate for reaching the summit, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure. You’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
